Hi all,

after my old thread was banned, yes, of course it was my fault...., I'm back with a new ship. The Frankfurt Class Heavy Frigate. I think I'll give it a run through the standard process. 3 Views, some Displays etc.
Overall it should be styled like a manual or presentation.

Come on. This is one of the most viewed topics in the 2D section and only two replies from charlie(thanks charlie). That can't be normal. You are interested, because you allwas look when I post an update but don't post a comment.

I really like it.I also think that it is really well done so that's why alot of people aren't criting. There is nothing to complain about here.It looks reasonably simple yet is very effective in showing what it is.

can't agree more...i'm not into star 'x' (put what it is in there) but it seems to be well done.. you want more crits? i'd say - no offense - you won't get it with that kind of work... you simply cannot crit on compositing/character/feel on those ones ... it's like: it's there and yeah there it is (hope you know what i want to point out)...those are good 'technical' illustrations imho but nothing more... you can be sure if you put those thingies into action then you'll get more c&c's

in don't want to be that harsh but...hey it's like that

Zorin
12-06-2003, 03:28 PM
Well, that's what I call comments ;)

You weren't too harsh just gave clear answers so I know where I stand. I'm hoping that charlie brown will be able to put them into action, because I'm absolutely unable to do so.

A new WIP, which features the Frankfurt Class and two other classes. I hope I don't break any rules, because there is another class beside the Frankfurt Class. But it does belong to the project.

they look good, i espcailly like the detail you put into the readouts...one quick note: i found some typos in the readouts...two words both missing 'e' at the end. "Impulse" and "course".

thats all. also, id like to see some 3d models if you can.

stonehenge

Zorin
12-11-2003, 01:03 PM
Thanks stonehenge. I fixed the typos you pointed out. I allways mix up German and English ;)

And believe me I want to see them in 3D, too. But I can't find someone who might want to modell them and I never did 3D and the earliesed(sp?) date I could start would be mid next year. :(

charlie brown
12-11-2003, 08:49 PM
hey zorin, these are cool i like the readouts too. Post more :)
Are they vector? do you use refs?

Zorin
12-11-2003, 09:44 PM
Yes, vector graphics. And they are all build from scratch. Some basic refs, but nothing detailed.

you're not by any chance a star trek fan are you??
He, he, great work!!! Would be great as a painting, or bigger with more detail!!

Zorin

A Trek Fan? I? No way... ;) *just kidding*

What exactly do you mean with painting? The ships in action or what?

Zorin
12-18-2003, 01:22 PM

How are you drawings these?
Are you actually designing these ships or are you copying already made ST ships.. its very clean.. I think it would be kick ass if you got 3d models of each textured and made a cool interface for a flash site so people could rotate the models around. If I didn't have shit to work on I would model them.

Zorin
12-29-2003, 10:34 PM
I design them totally from scratch. Of course I'm allways looking for inspiration, but that's all.

Your idea is really good, but as you mentioned somebody has to model them. And I can't do it, because I got no prog and as a result no experience.

well you do actually know that there's a demo of about every prog out there and some free modelers too? ;)

Zorin
12-29-2003, 11:07 PM
Ok, and where do I find those modellers?
If I would want to modell them the way they are I have to learn for years, otherwise I would make it sufficiantly.

these all look very official, what are they for in the end? business or pleasure sir?

It's quite hard to mirror the treck style, I bet you have a lot of books on this stuff

Zorin
12-30-2003, 08:07 PM
It's for personel pleasure..I think nobody would pay for it ;)

And I don't have one single book. For this I just refer to EAS and three screen caps.

hey.. did you get an email regarding the 3d software?
if you need info on where to get it just reply to my email.
if you didn't get it then please post your active email

I know it doesn't fit cause it's 3D but connected with the project. My PC crashed and I have to redo everything because I had no backup :(

And so here is the result of the first hours with Max.

So much for your fear of 3D programs recquiring "years" of study :D

With models such as these star faring vessels, you already have all the critical visual information needed to produce fine finished pieces. You'll quickly master the basics, I predict, and find yourself cranking out 3D models in another forum in no time.

Incidentally, here's a thread you might be interested in: CLICK ME (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71084)

You might have creative differences when it comes to aesthetics, but I think you'll like it anyway. I seem to recall that it took some time for this fellows thread to recieve any real responses also... Anyhow, maybe you'll be able to share some technical knowledge and design perspectives with each other?

Love the pics (although there're so many that it's a little overwhelming to the casual browser like myself, and I won't be able to comment on any individual image)!

Keep it up, and don't sell yerself short by saying nobody would pay for these (or other images you might produce using the same exacting passion)... you may be very wrong.

One Last Thing: Those last "briefing" pics are way too damn big. Keep your images at a reasonable, viewable size.

Zorin
01-30-2004, 05:36 PM
I have to admit that you were right, but without my guide I wouldn't be able to learn so fast and easy.

Nevertheless, I think there'll pass alot of time until I start on my first starship mesh ;) First I have to learn the very basics.

This I made yesterday:
http://scn.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x/,s,17910131,a,ga,ul,102008756,ic,Y/Schreibtisch2.jpg

What do you think about it?

William b. Hand
01-31-2004, 02:23 AM
I think it looks good.

I also think you should be posting it in the 3D forum :D ...

That's where you'll get the appropriate feedback, and you'll probably get a lot more hits on any given thread since most of CGTalk's traffic runs through all the 3D areas. You'll be carving out flagships in no time with the pointers and advice you'll find over there!

2 modellers started a 3d modell of it and didn't finish it....

I think you got a lot of viewers and little comment, because there isn't really much to say about your work so far...not to be offensive or anything... these are very well-executed technical drawings but without a real personal touch to them. My opinion anyway...
I like the amount of detail and the technical info...it makes it all very official.
nice work.

I'm back with a Star Wars Craft from the Clone Wars era.

It's meant to be able to fly and walk.

And it's no droid, it can be maned with two "pilots". Perhaps three, if I'll install a rear mounted extra gun located in a pulpit.
