Hi there,

just want to ask if anyone knows the index of refraction for sport cars' metal body and the black rubber rims of the windows? And also the spokes of the wheels of the car?

Thanks!

No refraction going on there, only reflection. Well, at least the refraction would be next to nothing since there is a thin gloss coat on the paint.

BTW, a couple IOR tables...

IOR is also used for fresnel reflections, although i _think_ it's called the complex index of refraction when used for reflections...although i might be mistaken there.

while i don't know that you'll get a definitive answer to your original question, i suggest something around 2.0-2.3 for car paint, at least nice clean, new car paint.

maybe around 1.2-1.4 for the rubber, assuming you were going to use glossy reflections, lower (maybe 1.1-1.2) if you wern't.

and i'm not sure what your spokes are made of on your wheels. if they were chrome or gold spokes (bling!) then something high would work, like 15.
