Hi there !

I don't quite understand why you'd want to export your mesh to a freeware unwrapper, you can perform all the unwrapping in Max (as you describe in your post), then export to obj for further use.
Have you tried to simply collapse, export to obj and import into z-brush ? Should work and your uvws should be kept.

Hey,

well i've just tried to export using the max2obj plug, a tri mesh with defined uvs, and it appears my uv get screwed in the process - they are exported but get messed up.
Maybe someone has a better experience of this and can help us, other than that i'd say try to export it to another file format and convert it then to obj ?

In terms of getting your model into Zbrush, use the free Crytek Polybump normal map plugin. You can export .obj files from it and it preserves your uv coordinates. You can download the plug from crytek's website.
