I am making a city for a movie. I didn't want to use the Skyscraper plugin, I wanted to make it myself. It will be a MASSIVE project, but oh well!
Anyway, I have some concerns about how I plan to do it.
Quick summary: I created a plane, sub-divided it, and I basically chose different faces and extruded them upward. BAM! Instant skyscrapers to work on. However, my concern is that now, I don't have individual skyscrapers to work with i.e. if I try to select one as an object, obviously, it will select the entire plane. I don't mind too much working this way, but due to inexperience, I don't think I am aware of possible problems I could have along the way.
My second option, obviously, is to create them separately out of cubes. However, this would mean needing to make literally hundreds (possibly thousands) of separate skyscrapers. I could work on each one separately, but this would be very difficult; mostly placing each one just so on the plane. I don't mind doing it this way, I just think the first option would be easier.
Any suggestions? Maybe you have a better way of doing this? Any help is greatly appreciated!
