Yeah, i think a gold armor will do.

The head blocking mesh has arrived:

Hey fantasymaster, I like the topology of your base mesh. Your drawing with a gold armor has an egyptian feel to it, I like it.
Agree with maxloegler about the direction of the mouth opening.

Good luck!

Thanks guys!

I already posted some YouTube vids about the workflow, see above. First I painted the scales in a texture layer, then freeze from selected paint layer and flooded the sculpt brush over everything. Then smoothed a bit and done.

Now is time to go through and sculpt some single scales and give them more silhouette.

Thanks to all brilliant feedback! Finally got some time to define the body. The neck and tail areas still need more love, but this is gona be the direction to go.

That's right oglu the feet need more attention too, same about the hands. I think they will come out better after retopo.

Looking really cool mate, the only problem for now is the perfect symmetry of the scale if I'm not wrong ? Might be nice to break it up. I think that the scales at the far back lower part of the mouth are a bit too regular as well. Otherwise really solid work !
Keep it up !

some true words from vincent regarding the symmetrie.
i would give the tongue a slightly different color than the mouth inside.

but it looks really cool so far.

fantasymaster
03-12-2012, 05:28 PM
Good point about the symmetry. I'm running out of time so will keep that in mind when do the final sculpting.
Update: Basemesh for the body and armor done. Now working on the weapon.

fantasymaster
03-13-2012, 05:08 PM
Thanks oglu, jep now begins the funny part. :buttrock:
Thanks Ballo, actually I used the Anubis as a reference, just like the jackal creatures in the mummy movies. This is gonna be a mix between Anubis and Sobek the crocodile god of the ancient Egypt.

nice texture so far.
two things that bother me a little.
- the ao round his chest area appears to be pretty dark. not sure if its from the rendering oder the texture.
- the toe nails look a bit of. i think it might be the scale of the texture.

Other people have said this but thanks for the tip. I've been looking for ways to get that fine detailing like what you had with the scales. I'm glad I looked at your post. It's always cool to learn something new. As far as your lizard goes, I'm really liking the armor design and sword. I feel like its kinda got a mix between sci-fi and fantasy. The sword is something I think I could see in Final Fantasy. Awesome job so far, can't wait to see more.

nice pose! the camera angle on the far left is really cool.
my only concern are the claws, cause they look, like there was not enough pressure on them, maybe they are not spread wide enough.

just my two cents.

nice job.. one of my favorites too. i think though the gradient background is a little confusing to the perspective... the horizon line seems too much on a downward gradient.

but i still like it..!

@Demitsuri: Thanks!
@oglu: Thanks. I tried a darker background, but it seems that's not working very well with the characters lighting.
@tswalk: Glad, you like it. My thought on the gradient was to support the red backlight of the character and not to define the horizon line. I definitely need a better background, but there wasn't enough time in the end.
@GuillaumeV: Thank you too!
@Ballo: Thank you, will need it
