View Full Version : realistic human head with various expressions
ryankittleson 06-10-2002, 10:39 PM Hi everybody!
Check out my efforts of the past month. This head was modeled in max with editable polys starting with a box. Textures and bump maps were painted by hand in photoshop. This virtual character will star in my next short animation which should be done in about 4-6 months.
please critique if you'd like
Oh, and I am looking for a job in this field :)

I agree..nearly perfect. Think it's the top left one that has a little fold type thing on the corner of the mouth. A personal preference would be to shape the ear out just a little more. Looks great overall!!

hi this is really nice ! i like the screamig thing the most too BUT.... I'm sorry to say that but the best model and cool textures don't help if u use a phong standart shader ... in other words the skin is reflecting way to much ! ever Tried 3S ?(Sub-Surface Light Scattering) or translucency ? i think you could get a much more realistic result with that one try it you'll be surprised !
which package r u using ?

Are you useing morph target texture maps?
I'd like to see how the wrinkles work in action

Dr BeN, I'm using MAX 4.2. I tried the raytrace material translucency settings and it just made the shadowed areas glow regardless of how thick or thin the model was in those areas. I'd like to get my hands on some true SSS, but I don't know where. do you? so what I have on these images here is a glow map painted red on the ears, eye lids, and under the nose. this is using a blinn base. you say it's reflecting too much light? do you think I should tone down the specular and/or the glossiness?

nice expressions dude!! likeing it! All i gotta say is that the mouth (teeth) need to be improved, to be more human-like, and what the others said, that he looks a bit too plastic.

Wow! Hey....You remember that time I just flat out gave you that brand new game controller ...and the time I bought you a chicken sandwhich with curly fries? Well...when you get a job...somewhere in the industry...don't forget yer friends man! Don't ...forget ...yer....friends!
Heh! :bounce: Great job Brian!
Comments: Facial expression looks tight. I really like the last pose..looks like he just sucked on a lemon..
Crits:
1.Skin tone and tongue still looks a bit like shiny plastic and I don't know what to tell you about fixin' it 'cause you know waaaaaaaay more about texturing than I do.
2.Looks too much like me...what are you tryin' to say man..huh?

Yeah: last one with the wink is tight. Hell they're all tight, but that one jumps out. Textures on the neck are superb. Like people said before, the bumps around the nose/cheeks seem a bit much. Although people really do have pitted faces with craters that deep, but maybe more shallow slopes?
Cut lip is a good touch.
Nice one.

I think the stills look great. I've played the .AVI over and over, and would like to see it tweaked a bit more. Overall, I don't have any major critiques, but if I had to find something wrong, I'd say it was in the way the skin around the mouth reacts. Maybe it's just me. :surprised
Very cool...
(Clay, don't flatter yourself, you'd never look this good, and you are waaaay more plasticy)
