View Full Version : What exactly is IOR ??????
MaxGuru 11-15-2003, 10:48 AM hi guys.. i want to know that what exactly is IOR ( index of refraction) i know it deals with the light passing through a transperent medium and geting refreacted.... but in FR stage i or any scaleline renderer what is the IOR map channel for refraction and reflection exactly used. what kind of material do u need to put in IOR channel and what happoens then and how it works. so if any one is ready to share his/her knowledge in detail plzs help me.. i am sure there are others like me who wants to know about this function.

As a Max "guru" you should know this :p
There is no real need to map your IOR, although you could if you really wanted to. The instances where you would have to do so are very rare.
Most of the time you can simply assign an IOR value up near the top of the Material Editor, where your specular falloff graph thing is.

In 3DS Max, you have to use a Raytrace material to have IOR.
