View Full Version : Child bones ignore parent

I'll preface this by saying that I haven't rigged in Maya for almost a year, so I can't remember if this is working properly. But I'm pretty sure it is not.

My problem is that my skeleton bones are not translating properly. More specifically, the translations/rotations of a parent bone are not moving the child bones as well.

This picture illustrates my point:

Not only does this happen to my current skeleton, but it also happens to my older rigs, and I'm pretty sure they didn't do them when I rigged them last year. So, I'm thinking it's something to do with the client. Any ideas?

it s correct for you to have inerith on .
What i think it can be it might be that something is constraining the bone so it keeps position.

for example if you create a 3 joints chain and then create a locator on the second join and select the locator then the 2nd bone and do parent constraint. now if you move the 1st joint you will get same exact behaviour .

I found the problem. I feel kind of dumb missing this earlier, but hopefully this will help other Maya users out:

NOTE: when I say 'on,' I really mean 'off.'

I never bothered to check the Move Tool Settings earlier, assuming the problem was somewhere in the Attribute Editor.

well actually need to be off so child poistion is not preserved . but that s default setting for the tool . probably you might have missclicked it
