View Full Version : Curve on surface problem.
bgdave39 11-14-2003, 06:06 PM I am trying to make a curve on a surface. WHenever I select the surface (half a nurbs cylinder) and the curve (a bracket type shape), then try to project it does nothing. I am in the right view and everything but I cannot figure out for the life of me why this simple operation will not work.
SO then I try drawing the curve on a live surface yet when I try to make the nurbs surface Live, it tells that I can only make poly meshes, nurbs surfaces, and construction planes live.
This prgram is on my last nerve today! Someone please help. Thanks in advance guys.

I think that it might be user error. I hate to accuse you of it, but that is usually the problem. Is it lofted? When was the last time you deleted the construction history? Also, does it have end caps? This is a problem as well, because if you split the isoparms but the end caps is still attached, it won't read as a "valid" NURBS surface. I hope that helped, good luck.

^^Construction history causes a lot of problems, so definately check that out.
Try reversing the selection order...Select the curve first and then the surface...Make sure you project it in one of the orthographic viewports and NOT the perspective.
If this does not work, try resetting the project curve on surface settings.
Good luck!

I deleted the construction history. it does have endcaps. It is a 180 degree cylinder with endcaps. i sttretched it out to make it a little wider. What i am trying to do is just make a long 180 degreee cylinder, and projest a curve on the surface to trim out a portion of the side. Maybe I'll just start over.
i am a beginner so if i had to guess it is actually a user error. I'll post a screenshot later tongiht. There is probably a way to do what i am trying that is tons easier anyway.

oh, and yes i was doing it from a side view facing the side of the half cylinder that i needed to trim.

Try it without end caps. Or at least seperate them from the cylinder, and then try it. I think the trouble is in the end caps, but I couldn't give you a good reason why, sorry.
