Ok this is my first painting in photoshop. Its like my 15th drawing in my life....never been really big into drawing till yesterday...now I think its the coolest thing since laceless addidas. I was always that guy that thought 3d and 2d dont have too much to do with each other as long as you have an artisitc eye ....the medium should not matter?.....boy was I wrong.....I discovered so much in these last 2 days. OK here it is...lots of crits please. If you zoom in you can tell I have no idea what Im doing :)

As for critique, work more on the nose and the eyes. The nose's position is just not right according to perspective... the eyes isn't as realistic as the rest of the picture (more like the eye lashes that needed more work).

Otherwise, it's great work. I'm also beginning to paint in photoshop... with a mouse, no less, so I know how difficult it is. Keep it up.

Thanks daisy_girl for the crit. The eyes do need alot more work. Some of my co workers werer telling me the same thing. Some people have told me the nose is off also. Im gonna see if I have time to go back to work on those areas....atleast maybe the eyelashes need to be alot better.

Drawing with the mouse....nooooo. You got to get a tablet. I use it for textures for my 3d stuff and now that I am drawing I couldnt imagine anything else. You should seriously consider the Graphire 3 from Wacom. Its their entry level tablet and its like $80. That what I got and it just fine for now. Im sure once I start drawing more I will want to upgrade.

Thx for the crit and I cant wait to see your photoshop work :)

Cool, I didn't know that there is a tablet out there for cheap! :) I'll take a look around for it.

I haven't had a bad run with just the mouse so far though... you can see my stuff on daisy.laconicallure.net

I have always wondered how to do realistic looking hair :/ Thanks again!

the problem actually seems to be that the eyes would be lower down, closer to the nose, it the head were in proper perspective. The eyes also look very flat - think of the features as lying on a line drawn around an egg shape - the front of the face it actually really cylindrical and the features wrap around that cylinder.

The left eye (our left) especially is too high up - dunno if you've ever tried this, but use Photoshop to flip your image horizontally. All kinds of problems can be revealed by just reversing the image. It's a handy tool for diagnosing problems.

The rest of the face is going pretty well though - just make a few adjustments to the eyes and you'll have it! :)
