View Full Version : normal Soften/Harden vs Softer/Harder

I'm doing low-poly models for a video game and I need pretty good control over the normals. I want to get normals for a selected edge to be some percentage between totally soft and totally hard. This seems like it would be pretty useful but I can't find a way to do it.

Some people have suggested the Soften/Harden[] tool but it does not act this way. The angle you set is a threshold; normals with an angle difference less than the threshold are totally softened, others are left unchanged.

Any ideas how to get this? Any scripts available? Thanks

If I understand you right, the soften/harden tool in maya works at a component level. Select an edge, soft/hard threshold, and then move to another edge. It allows you to control across the mesh.
Or are you looking for something more dynamic?

I'm looking for a tool that works like the Soften/Harden tool but lets me set the normals to be some value between hard(set to face) and soft(average)
