View Full Version : Beginner: Problem with bones/skin in Maya.

Hello, please help me.

I'm learning Maya and am trying to rig a humanoid for the first time. I have been following Lynda.com tutorials, and they've been great and I have felt myself learning more and more daily.

However, my rigging is falling apart - my bones are not binding to my skin correctly. Moving the bones causes them to move outside the poly model and distort the arm. Can someone please tell me why my character's arms are doing this?

I warn you, I'm a total Maya nub, and this is the first time I have tried something like this, so it's probably something very simple. I appreciate any help.

I've added a few more screens of my general model and bones to see if you can help me work it out.

Check the skin weights to see if they are attached on the right spots.

But this is a modeling section on this Forum so please move you're post to The Maya and Character Setup section. I'm saying this to help you. You'll get more answers and quicker.

Thank you very much for the advice. It's appreciated.

I'm pretty awful at animating, and I appreciate your help. I know this is the wrong forum for this still, but can anyone reccommend a good book to help my study?

Personally for me when I switched over from max I used the learning Maya books and found they covered everything well. They have both foundation and intermediate books that go through things from building a virtual set, characters, texturing, lighting, rigging, animating and rendering. Quite beginner friendly in my opinion.
