Well, here is my first WIP post here on CGTALK. I am working on my first serious attempt at an animated short. This is the one set in which it will take place. Everything is being done in 3ds max.
It takes place at midnight in a computer server room. The lighting is meant to be harsh and is lit with only the hanging overhead lamp and the desk lamp that are actually in the scene.
I am obviously not going for photo-realism, I just want to get the story across without being distracted by overly bad cg work. I have realized that I would prefer to do more cartoonish animations in the future, but I would like to finish this one in the current style.
Your suggestions and input on the following things would be appreciated. Here are the short comings that stand out most to me...
Most of the textures are from the default library.
The objects are very simple...too simple...
I am including a book case that will only be in the background. What's a good way to fill that with a variety of books without making unnecesary objects?
Here's my big problem. I need to have one person in this short and I am having a lot of trouble making a character that looks real enough to put in this scene. I have a copy of poser and have experimented with using a poser figure as a skin over a biped. Is this a waste of time? Is there a better way to rig him for gross movements? I plan to do a seperate arm/hand model for the close ups.
Comments and suggestions on these and any other issues you notice are appreciated.
Thanks
