View Full Version : contour shader in maya 2012
royterr 12-16-2011, 05:23 PM in old maya versions to use the contour shaders (toon lines), in addition to the shading group option, one had to to link "contour contrast" and a "contour store" nodes to their respective slots in render globals, is that still necesseary in maya 2012?
and i recall that for clean renders one had also to connect a "contour shader output" node to the camera output slot, what was that about? is it still necessary in maya 2012?

I personally never did any of that stuff for contour rendering, in Maya 2009. I just used ContourSimple generally though, and my stuff was always still-renders too. I never had to do anything weird except activate Contours in the Render Settings, and it was really straightforward after that.
So far, Maya just crashes on me in 2012 when I try to use Contour Shaders - most likely due to user error, but it does not work like it used to, for certain. I hope you have some better luck with them, my friend! I've just been using Maya Toon instead on my arch/viz stuff, renders really quick but obviously has many limitations, and I don't think it would work in animation like this at all.
