yeah, my gosh, when I first saw that commercial, I didn't even realize it was CG until I started paying attention to the impossible camera moves. the attention to detail with the fog-breath and sound effects completely fooled me for at least 1/4th of the commercial.

there is some incredible camera animation in this spot.

It was done by Digital Domain on a Maya/Lightwave pipeline.

I read that David Fincher directed it.

I was really impressed....first I thought is this a ad for Madden 2016?? haha...but the centering on the shoes gave it away.

As usual to the guys at DD:bowdown:

my favorite part is where one guy shouts "watch the ball!"

it just makes you feel like you're right there amidst the... well... polygons.

man, I just saw another commercial done by Digital Domain. the Gatorade one where Michael Jordan is vs. himself about 15 years ago. the younger MJ was head replacement and I never even caught on... they're amazing!!! let's not even get me started on how incredible their sequence in Fellowship of the Ring was... (the horse/river effect). and how gorgeous The Fifth Element was overall.

Yep, and it's not their first collaboration either. They did the Mechanical Legs spot for Adidas together which was phenominal.

I don't think there's an article about it, but all you need to do is check DD's site. DD uses Maya, Lightwave and Houdini. but they don't use Houdini for characters. That leaves LW and Maya. However it was probably rendered with Renderman. Some one from DD will probably pop in here and set it straight.

you rang?;)

Well....as far as rendering.....DD uses Renderman for film...while commercials uses LWave...as you can remember the Adidas commercial was done the same way...

Thanx Mr. Durden

As always nice work from D2. I did have one question though. Does ANYONE at D2 or anywhere else use Houdini for character animation at all?.

Only place ive ever heard of Houdini being used for character animation is CORE up in Toronto ...which is probably the biggest Houdini house now with that full cg project "WildLife" they got goin on with Disney backing...I know they are using it up there for character anim but have lots of custom tools to make that bearable :wip:

i dont think this looks like a david fincher clip. i dont even like it, maybe because i dont like this sport at all.

the one fincher did was for adidas with the robot-prostetics-legs.

It used to be up on clipland, but now the link is 404. Here's a link to an article about it.

http://luxology.net/article/092302_DigitalDomain/page1.aspx

The commercial and some behind the scenes footage was shown at Siggraph's electronic theater. That was the first time I had seen the full version of the commercial; it's really fantastic. If you search google you'll see it was nominated for and won a couple of awards.

yeah, I finally tracked the spot down on DD's official website... impressive. that reminds me... when's Fincher coming out with a new movie? he's due, I'd say.

It's fantastic, the realism is awsome... I wish I could have a divx version too... if someone knows where we can find some of this 3d adv in divx... it would be apreciated!

I saw this comercial on TV earlier this week. At first I thought it was for a Madden NFL video game, what with the CG characters, crazy camera shots, and the light up jerseys, but when the Nike thing went I up, I went: :applause:

This is definetly the best nike comercial I've seen, it almost made me want to buy a pair of their shoes...almost.

Anyway, I haven't seen it again on TV, is it still running?

Actually I believe all the CG is head replacement only, even the dunkin shots. the commercial was a showcase and case study for D2's facial muscle system.

yeah, I remember at siggraph, i went to one of the seminars about the matrix burley brawl, and they had DD do the gatorade spot.

I honestly thought the commercial was just a prosthetic on some guys face. anyways, i loved the lecture on it, and thats where I saw the feet commercial too I believe.

great stuff
