View Full Version : Smoke with lights?
Caravaggio 06-10-2002, 04:08 AM A while ago I came across a way to make smoke by using not light emitting lights within an emitter. But It's lapsed my memory, and I was wondering if anyone here knew it. It's something simple I know and I'll slap myself when I realize it but it's not just regular visible light, it's pitch black. It didn't allow for shadows within the smoke but it was effective at distances.
Any help appreciated.

why bother with that, got to pelhamdesigns.com and download the pelham shader, this will give you a smoke shader that looks as good if not better,a dn allows for shadows.

Thnx but I can't seem to get that link to work.
This isn't the same place that distributed an analytical haze is it? I have one smoke shader, it's great for like cig smoke, very curvy, but I could never get the edges to fade off very well, not like the control I had over the lights.

those are the shaders, and to get the edges to fall off right all you need do is increase the Ray depth.

Thanks, actually I was thinking of another one. I never used that one from the link you gave because on my old comp I'd use emitters that were too slow. I started messing with animated lofts. It should work now...
