View Full Version : Long beach - composition and rendering advice?

Hi all... this is me trying to overcome my phobia of painting landscapes - I normally go with people and get complete tunnel vision about all those frivolous things like composition and backdrop, so the end result is my paintings only ever look good as a closeup of a face.

I thought I'd try to overcome that by properly setting a character in a landscape. It's clearly not finished, but I'd like to get it up to a really good standard so I can give it as a gift. Any advice you can give would be most welcome, and paintovers/circling the areas you are talking about can be particularly helpful.

Personally i already love the overall feeling of the image

maybe on the composition aspect adding more space on the right side would improve the balance (see attach, if i managed to upload it correctly)

by the way, it already looks promising!
