View Full Version : Extreme n00b Max UVW Edit question...

A quick question I have not found the eternal answer for... What is so hard about Discreet adding a simple "save to bitmap" feature in the UVW Editor ??
The printscreen technique works, but I find my self shifting things one pixel left/right... one pixel up/down to create the template in [insert graphic proggy of choice here] correctly.
Anyhow, just a question, until then I will prinscreen or think about a third party solution... (not sure thats worth it or not).

3dsmax users use Texporter, which is free:
The descrption is kindof misleading, it says "Texporter is a small but a handy utility
to unwrap any mesh in texture coordinate space" but it just exports your bitmap. It doesn't
do any mesh unwrapping, just exports a screenshot of your UV coordinates.

Ok, first... I AM AN IDIOT!
I thought for sure I had investigated this at an earlier time, THANK YOU for setting me straight! I just tried it, worked like charm...
Now if I could reverse the damage done from repeatedly banging my head on the desk...
Moot point now, but still, why no cute little save button in the Max edit window.. Mmmm :hmm:

Texporter is great, lots of options.
PSDPathUnwrapper is a nice option if you use Photoshop... paths are resolution-independent, can turn them into selections, etc.
Unwrap Tools has an image dump, it's slow but it is actually within the Edit UVWs window. Plus it has lots of other great UV tools.
