Just got very distracted in response to a question over at renderosity about how to create soap bubbles, threw myself in and had a go and thus far, this is my result!

I don't have any reference to hand so I am uncertain about a few things like ; is there any refractiona at all given that its a thin soapy film and air (I gave it an index of 1.001)

Any thoughts?

ooooh pretty :D

one thing though, soap bubbles tend to have a weird oily surface, sort of swirly patterns

Yeah, I think the spectral shader could be nice here.

Thanks! - Yeah - I threw a turbulence in the diffusion channelhoping that might help and interfere with the spectral shader in the luminance channel, but it didnt that much! :) - I'll have to play with that further I think. :)

lovely bubbles..would make a great little animation exercise also...

like that last comment, one thing I learned from my classical animation program, is all you need to convince someone that something is a bubble is good animation. As for the spectra shader, can't remember how to use it very well, but waaaay back whne I did my spinning crystal animation for maxon, I seem to remember the spectral shader naturally getting a sort of oily effect that I tried forever to get rid of.

for your R8 CD the crystal file should be on there, that might help explain what ever I had done for the swirly effect Can't remember what on the CD its under, but it showed off highlights and the spectral shader and caustics.

some improvements - I have managed to get a noise in the diffusion channel that is (hopefully) more realistically affecting the spectral colours to give that oily/soapy effect.http://www.kromekat.nildram.co.uk/stuff/bubbles3b.jpg

I'll have a look at that - thanks! :)
