View Full Version : Proportional modelling
theboykidney 11-11-2003, 01:40 PM hi,
i am using prop modelling to adjust the surface of an object, and its doing the job ok, except for the odd time i want a vert here and there NOT to be affected by it, but verts further away to be affected...is this possible?

select the vertex you want affected, in the prop options (right click the prop button) check the box that makes it act on selected points only, use the move tool and move any point.
Little known trick:
move is often used in sticky so not many people notice that you can change its mode.
by default it's in view mode, but it works in global ref etc. as well.
maybe you knew maybe u didn't.
always worth posting this one :)

hey, heres another little trick I learned... Proportional can be used in texture editor to do a cool little thing... I use move all the time when editing maps. You know how when you have vertex bleeding checked and the points you're working on that are on the edge of the map is move simultaneously on both sides? Well, turn on prop, set it's effect to zero, and uncheck vertrex bleeding... you can go along the edges with a move tool instead of selecting each point group and translating... WAY quicker.
I think it would be nice if you could make the proportional tool follow around the object's surface..
Eg: I was using the proportional tool to sculpt the bottom lip of my character but it was also affecting the top lip and the teeth inside.
So if the falloff could run around the surface of the object rather than in a kind of bounding sphere, you wouldn't have this problem...
Don't get me wrong though, it does rock.

Sfink this really is the same issue of the original post
select a point on he lower lip and expand the selection a few times (shift +) so that selection will widen without reaching the top lip.
from the proportional options check the option to make it work on selected points only and enjoy the stiff upper lip.
