View Full Version : Mirroring polygonal object
lvinay 11-10-2003, 09:58 PM I'm modelling this F1 car and I don't know how to model one half and have the other half as a "reflect" of the first. That will help me to see better the proportions.

make sure the pivot point is aligned with the side you want to mirror along. select the object, and set the duplicate options to -1 on the x or z axis (depends on the orientation), and select instance.
be sure to keep the verts in the center on the place of symmetry or you will have to go in and fix each one.
or in the Polygons menu select mirror geometry. But be aware that this will not update as you model.

duplicate options>"-1 in the X axis and select instance if ur wanting to keep modeling and have it update
you still have to "combine" and "merge verts" when youre wanting to complete the model
oh and you must keep buttrock'n,thats very important:buttrock:

Just to clarify, using the x -1 duplicate with instancing does this.
The maya 5.0 bonus tools (on the alias.com website) also has some new tool for mirroring that you might look into.
