Okay this redering is close to finished. I wanted to put it up and get some feedback first. I like the idea, but am afraid it may be a bit too simple. I'll post some earlier milestones later.

Very cool. I do like the coloring and all the poddish things in there. I'll be watching for the modeling!

Very cool drawing. You definatly have your concept skills down. I only wish i could draw as well as you.
I like the scene, but I do agree if feels like it's lacking something. Don't forget the breife description of the scene they gave us to base our scenes off of. There's a lot in there that most people aren't remembering.
What's the amazing thing that happens here? Something so strange big or amazing that you'e not sure if somebody else triggered it, that you need somebody else to witness this with you, something so frightening you need somebody there with you to get out of there.
Thats the hard part about this. It's not only creating a kick ass image (Which you've done), but create a kick ass image that tells part of a story. Shows a moment in time when something incredible happened. The person that pulls both those things off will thin this, and you're close.
What are the things in the pods? Eggs? Maybe one is watching. Maybe there something incredible you just bearly make out at the end of the tunnel. Maybe some machine has jsut turned on doing something thought imposible. Remember, the landscape was suposed to look as if were defying physics...
Anyway, hope I've helped you some.

From past experience, somtimes less is best, as too much information leaves nothing for the viewer to imagine.
good work!
