View Full Version : Hope's Journey
bupaje 11-06-2011, 01:03 AM Working on a personal project I hope to turn into a short at some point - may try to go the Kickstarter route and see if there is any interest.
The project is here on my site - a poem I want to illustrate with animatiion. http://stormvisions.com/pages/musebox/special-projects/hopes-journey.php
My digital art is still rough (except for textures which is ok) but I really want to get this done so am swinging at it. Here is a panel in progress
Here it is so far

crits and suggestions welcome.
Here is one I did yesterday as well. My faces suck (esp girls who come off rather scarey) so I based it on the beautiful faces I found on this artists site http://www.etsy.com/shop/kmberggren

Moderator can move this if it belongs in another forum. After looking at other peoples posts I am not sure since this would not be a single image thread.

I like your style. If you want improvements on rendering, I would first of all suggest to get some references because your anatomy seems a bit off. And secondly, your painting style is soft. Are you using a brush with the hardness turned down? Try using a hard brush, with the opacity and flow down. And if you are working in Photoshop, depending on which version you have, under the brush settings in Other Dynamics for older versions or Transfer for CS5. I think that would help a lot with refining your painting style.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Yes, my human and character art is very clumsy. I need a lot of practice and appreciate the tips.
I also need to develop some good drawing process as I am all over the map when it comes to approach.

Trying to work out the giant 'ME' Think I want to go for a more extreme worm's eye view, over the child's shoulder as he holds the giants pants leg (going to have to lose the boots or put them under the pants so he has something to grab on to). I want it to be like looking up a redwood tree. Lighting will be critical too. Since the giant is a symbol for the self absorbed 'me' I don't want to feature the face too much, the expression will have to be carried by the posture, eyebrows and eyes, maybe a hint of the mouth. Might have to look at some comic books as I've seen that face in shadow/expressive eyes a lot in that.
Haven't gotten it sorted out yet. Any tips welcome. Once I sort out I'll do a little cleaner piece.
