in the challenge rule topic you talk about simulation but can we make a rig for the wave something like what they did on surf up ?

I can't see why not using an interesting working rig instead of a hard to control sim. I'd say as always, do it the way it will work the better for you.
If I decide to attempt this challenge, I'll go for a setup like surf's up for sure. It may depend on the shot you want to create as well ... as well as the size / shape of the wave.

Does our submission have to be a final render? or can it be in particle mode?
RobertoOrtiz

Particle mode is fine...
What do you have in mind?

Oh cool thanks for reply, just working on a realflow simulation to get the nice wave shape, but not sure if I'll get enough time to finish a fully shadered rendered pass!!

Awesome...
Post a WIP thread and we can support you.

Hi Roberto, well I'm still working on it, but the latest wip I've got you can see it here:

But as you will see everything still in particle mode...

I've re-simulated with a bigger wave and a loooot more splash and foam particles...

That is fantastic work.
So what is next?

Hi Roberto, well hopefully I'll get some time in the holiday and then finish it properly by adding mesh to the particles and then taking into maya for rendering!!!

Hi! I`m very interested of this theme with wave. I`d like to join and try. But I wanted to ask, when all work must be done?

Give me a couple of weeks.
I plan to relaunch this challenge soon..
Until then, just do pre production.

Relaunch...? Great! Maybe I can enter then!
I did this a while ago, but it needs some rendering.

Yes i do want to do a relaunch.
I was in the middle of my wedding when I l;launched it the last time. It was not my best plan.

I have researched different ways of doing a swell in RealFlow, I think I might have something good to work with. I will post results soon.

Ok for know here are some sketch up models you can use for the simulations:

Here I posted few simulations:
Very low resolution: http://vimeo.com/34590318
Higher resolution: http://vimeo.com/34595726 and http://vimeo.com/34596046
And even higher resolution meshed with splash and foam: http://vimeo.com/34693778
There is plenty of room for improvement. Can't wait for this challenge to re-launch!

Guys sorry for being MIA,
We are in preproduction of a HUGE project at work, and I was launching the HCR modeling' challenge.
FX wars is next on my list of things to do.

Sorry guys for being MIA this month.
I recently got married, and now i am knee deep in crunch time at work.
I had a big challenge in mind, but it might have to be moved forward 2 months.
Until then I was thinking of doing a more straightforward mini challenge..
how about: Roswell Crash 1947?

That's pretty cool. Something I may be able to get into.

That looks fun too =) About the Wave-relaunch (if still wanted) you might want to ask over at the lighnting challenge forums, they had in their #28 challenge an amzing old ship model and sea model. Combining those 2 challenges might lead to some very impressing stuff ;)
oh, and for some not-so-frequent reader in hear (like me) it might be advisable to start numbering the challenges :D took me a while to figure out, that wave was on hold :D
