hi, i'm a newbie to the brazil rendering system... but i have a rather irritating problem on hand.

i notice in my renderings a dappled effect, reminicent of jpeg artifacts... especially in the areas receiving indirect illum. (radiosity)... i take this to be caused by a very low sampling rate, however increasing the min shade rate under the GI controls doesn't really solve the problem.. the pattern just gets more refined, but doesn't go away.

i'd really appreciate it if anyone could offer some help.

thanks a lot.

here are 2 sample images to explain what i mean.

It would help to know what your settings actually are, but it does indeed look like a sampling problem. What are your GI mim /max rates and what rate are you using for the sampling control? :)

Try increasing your view rate under the sampling control, which is right underneath the shade rate. This will tend to help clean up any dirty spots of your image. Sec rate is used for things seen in reflections and refractions, so if those are 'dirty', increase the sec rate. I'd also suggest keeping your shade rate at -2/0 or lower to smooth out the spots and speed up the render. I made some examples to show you, from a little mock-up i did of your scene. All were rendered with -3/-1 for the GI shade rate.

This first one uses a view rate of 5. This is good for quick tests when you're adjusting your lighting and such.

This next one is a view rate of 30. It's still not perfectly clean, but it's a lot better than the first.

This last one is a view rate of 60. Silky smooth. :)

Hope that helps you with your problem.:D
