"Xbox Japanese Price Drop
Now it's cheaper than it is in America.

November 07, 2003 - Microsoft Japan confirmed today that the Xbox will be receiving a price drop in Japan. Starting 11/11, the normal system which comes with a controller and the DVD playback kit will be priced at 16800 yen (approximately $152). That's far lower than the current $200+ American price for the similar bundle.

But that's not all! On 11/20, Microsoft will release a limited edition Xbox bundle so good we may just have to buy a second system (although god knows where we'd put it!). On that day, the same day as the release of Project Gotham Racing 2, MS will release a 19800 yen "Platina Box" which comes packed with the Xbox hardware, two controllers (one gray, one black), the DVD playback kit, a copy of Project Gotham Racing 2, Halo and two months free Xbox Live Service. All that for the equivalent of $180. Wowzers!"

why? I doubt the Japanese wil want to get an xbox now.. they didn't then and I don't think a pricedrop will change their mind, not especially since Nintendo and Sony are on their individual rolls back home and the new consoles are so close to release.

I work with a guy that is a crazed console gamer. He subscribes to 6 gaming magazines, and he never shuts up about gaming. Although I don't really mind. My point. He keeps telling me that Microsoft just cant win over the Japanese gaming crowd with the X-BOX. Past the introduction of the X-BOX in Japan. Japanese gamers have not taken a liking to the console and sales have been dry not making even the lowest sales expectations.
He may be saying that because he knows I have no real liking towards MS, but on the other hand I have no real reason to doubt him.

I imagine the price drop is an effort to create some holiday sales. I have no doubt that Sony will react soon because that is their house.

I thought the lack of Xbox sales in asia came from asian people having smaller hands, and not grasping the controller as easy as other consoles accessories.

I guess that is one of many problem though, language tailored games, national pride etc..
