View Full Version : help on animating a chain

Im trying to link a chain of torus and animate them so that the other torus move realistically as if they were linked. Which Im not sure how to do! All I've done so far is used to spacing tool to make it appear linked. But it doesnt move as a whole when I move one of the links... please help!

does your installation of max include reactor?

if so, i believe tere is a tutorial dealing with this situation exactly.

Actaully, im using Plasma, cut down version of MAX. Which is what my university is using :S so no, i i dont have reactor :\

I wonder if simcloth3 from www.chaosgroup.com may work in his situation? You can make rigid bodys and I'm pretty sure you could do a good job in this case. Question is whetehr it'll work with Plasma... probably not.

I dont know if plasme include the path deform modifier but if it does.

use this on your chain (make sure al the chain links are attached)
animate the spline and you have a moving chain!

simCloth is free? what other fabric solutions are there....is simCloth quality, does it get the job down nicely? I'm very curious!! (the gallery on the choasgroup site looks very impressive!)

sim cloth can be a little pokey but it definalty has its uses u should give it a try

plasma is not a cut down version of max. it has a whole different purpose. I think you are reffering to Gmax? Plasma is for making flash web content.

anyways Plasma has as I can recall reactor so try it out!
