Is it possible to use these tools as shown in this video using Vray 2 for Maya (running 2012)?

Unfortunately it is not available for the moment; we are currently working to bring those effects to Maya as well.

Ptex is pretty sweet this is true, but for my line of work I would much prefer iray! *drool*

Have you tried IPR render in Maya with V-Ray (ie V-Ray RT)?

I remember that iRay (without downloaded 3dsmax and copy dll)it's not supported yet on Maya, so definitively vRay-vray RT are the Only RT renderer.
iRay-vRayRT= 0-1

actually you can download mental ray standalone also from autodesk and copy the files... works like a charm but a proper iRay documentation would be nice (which nodes are supported and which will cause a fatal error :D)

I never found those sites too I usually google something like "maya 2012 hotfix 4 download autodesk" :)
