On my system, setting the background to animate is SO SLOW. It would seem to me with the power of today's graphics cards, 2D animation should be really fast, even if it is combined with 3D in an OpenGL or DirectX viewport. Is there a way to accelerate the framerate? As it is I'm lucky to get 5 frames per second.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question

Not trying to be a jerk but honestly you will not get very many responses with a thread title like this. People get pretty upset about that and tend to ignor threads with irrelevant titles.

Let them get mad if they want. It may be an irrelevant title, but not an irrelevant post. Although in the future, I will try to follow your advice about being more descriptive in my thread titles.

Read the sticky. There's a reason why certain thread titles work better than others.

Anyhow, check out Bobo's tool. Might help you.

My setup is as follows:

1 GHz Processor (this is probably the main problem)
1 GB SD RAM
120 GB Hard Drive
Windows XP
nVidia Quadro FX 2000 (Definitely NOT the problem)

Make sure you are using the certified graphics driver:

http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/Quadro_Certified/43.03/43.03_win2kxp.exe

and that you have it set to the 3ds max preset

After installing driver, you may enable the custom OGL setting from Start menu -> settings -> control panel -> display properties -> settings -> advanced -> select tab with NVIDIA product name. An additional window will pop up, select Open GL settings -> Custom OpenGL application settings -> select 3D Studio Max from the pull down list.

Also might help to resize your bkg images ahead of time. Square and Powers-of-two will speed up display on your graphics card.
