you can probably do it via a hardware render.
i dont think you can do it thru a software render??
there is a renderSpline script out somewhere ...
for software rendering , but it depends on what you need.
have a look at highend3d , i think thats were i saw it.

Why don't you make a playblast of the wire model.
Change the colors of the background to black and the wire to the color you want.

it can be done with paint effects.
Any spline can be used to attach a pant effects brush, thus the spline itself is not rendered (like in max), but the paint effects brush follows the spline...It is infinitely more cusomizable than the Max version.
also,
all max does is loft a circle around your splines for you(it's not actually rendering the splines),
so if you want the same effect, just draw a circle, and do a path extrude along your spline,
then you can just scale up/down the circle to control the thickness of the spline.
And yeah, you can also do it in the hardware render,
which is the closest to actually rendering the splines,
because what it does is antialias you're any curves in your scene.

There is a melscript on internet called " WIREDATA " , found on highend3d
it basicly does the thing that you were asking for
