Can I ask a really stupid question?
I have a problem with connecting the tumb bones and the other bones to the wrist.

In the image you can see -->
The bones with the red lines are the ones that I wanna connect to the green spot on the bone with the blue line.

In max you have tutorial under Help ( far right upper corner of the screen if max is opened) I follow the animating character tutorial and I got stuck on the point were it is asked to connect the tumb bone to the wrist. This is because I got no clue if I do the connecting thing right. I select the tumb bone then I press the select and link button( there is an image in the tutorial) and I go with my mouse to the wrist, the mouse cursor stays the same it doesn't chance in a link cursor.
What am I doing wrong or do I have topreform this act in a totaly different way.

I hope you can help

So - when you select the Link tool, and move over your thumb bone, you can't drag a link to the other bone?

There are a number of heirachical factors (parent>child relationships for example) that will not allow linking in certain 'directions' (a > b may work but b > a will not).

I'll have a play when I get back to my machine later - but in the mean time, try creating a new max file and reproducing the setup of those bones you want to link and see what happens...

Sorry for this pretty vague response!

He thanks man,
I played around but I can make no sence on when I do the select and thing right.

I found out that when I create a new bone and klick on an old one it attaches itself to the top of the old one. *see image for result*
But I don't know if this is the right way.
Well I found a tutorial for advanced IK bones and I hope this will help me.

Still I would like to know on how do I know I've used the SELECT AND LINK TOOL correctly and that the things are linked.
