View Full Version : deactivate certain tracks in animation
mimo8 11-07-2003, 11:18 AM I´m animationg some boxes that hop arround.
so it´s manly they y-axis and the y-scale
now when I continue in the finetuning with autokeying, tuning the moment when the box touches the ground. so I turn the keyframe interpolation preset to "<->" cause that is what you need when a box touches the ground - a sudden in and out.
sh.. is only that this also changes the interpolation of the x & z axis to Hard.
... is it possible to turn of certain tracks (x&z position track) from keyframing/auto keyframing??
thnx

... it is not possible to do so by putting the tracks that should be locked to another layer and lock or hide this layer (tried it)

I posted questions before, if it is or will be possibel to collapse the xyz-tracks temporary, to have a cleaner timeline
the possibility to exclude tracks from animation would also be a step towards a more broomed up animation interface

Yes, AFAIK it's not possible, but both of your suggestions really should be incorporated. It's pretty nutty that you can't collapse those tracks or keyframe only on a selected axis.

the best solution is deleting unneeded tracks and then add new keyframes in the timeline or in the f-curve by ctrl-klick or copy paste. also once your keyframe have the right timing/in out setting is seems quicker to change their value in the f-curve .... f-curve rules !!!
but the fact that you cannot lock or deactivate tracks is quite reglementing to the autokey function. looking at the jeff lee DVD-preview I remember him say something like "autokey ... I love it" ( or less enthusiastic : )
starting animation I thought it is all in the timeline; meaning that you need to have total controll over all your keys at any time - that is not the case (as it seems to me now) once you know what object is keyed by the next move and putting some markers or orienting on other moves where you are in time, it is even possible to work with a closed or very minimized timeline ... just some thought by a very wise, very old dragon ;)

Yes--I was also very surprised to discover that you can't do this--seemed rudimentary. You can turn off animation completely by clicking the animation icon in the toolbar on the left, but you cant turn off individual timelines.
