Howdy..

This might be a stupid question but how do i clone one object into multiple objects based on the vertex-position of anohter object?

To clarify. I need to have lots and lots of single polygone objects in a scene (im talking 1000's here) and i dont feel like cloning one and moving them around (im lazy i know).. So i though maybe there is a way to make another object with lots of vertices (1000's) and clone the first object 1000 times and automaticly have them moved to the locations of the vertices of the second object.

hmm.. yeah.. thats it... any idees? i was thinking using a particle system..? but im not sure...

1. Create an Lscript to do it or hope someone else does/did.
2. Add some particles and attach your objects to them.
3. http://www.happy-digital.com/instance.asp

I'm sure there are a bunch of other ways, too.

There are some free clone plugins for layout that MAY do the trick.
Check on flay.com
I like CIMs #2 idea. Load your object that has the target vertices.
Make it a particle emitter and have it emit the same number of particles as it has vertices. Make it emit particles based on each vertex. This will create a particle at each vertex of your object. You can now use fxlinker to attach another object to each particle

Oh thnx for the reply..

That seems to be the way to go. At least after ive adjusted the max number of objects in layout.. :)

thank you once again. You've saved my day.. :)

No problem...:)
Also, lets say your object has 1000 vertices. You need to set
the birthrate to 1000 and have it emit based on the frame number so they will all be there instantly.

There's a plug called Layout Clone that does exactly what you're after. Check for it on Flay...
