Hello,

Here is a little background on this project. I began concept work on this vehicle in 1999 (vudner both project) and since that time have worked off and on trying to create this vehicle. I have made 2 previous versions, in polygons to various degrees of success, and now I am making the difinitive version of my beloved space truck. This is an all new NURBS model that I am creating in Maya. I'm trying to achieve full photorealism with this model and to get it as close to the concept art as possible (with some minor style improvements). I am working on this a few hours in the evenings. I will be posting updates to this thread from time to time and I encourage any constructive criticism or comments on the work. Hope you enjoy, and I look forward to your feedback.

oh yeah, before i get blasted I should note I am still modeling it, and the chrome texture is only there to help define the surfaces. Please don't crit the textures yet.

Here is the concept art that the design is based on.

looking good. what are the holes on the top part of the fenders for ? some kind of exhaust maybe ?
I'm also wondering how you're going to manage the jet's exhaust as in the concept they seem directly aimed at the cargo... maybe some sort of deflectors ?
keep updating

When i saw the first pic and read the story about it i thought about the space trucks from Cowboy Bebop - Heavy Metal Queen...
The next thought was about a funny movie with the same design of the trucks from CB - HMQ...

Then i saw the concept and everything flew away.

Kind of funny, the truck is from the future but it looks like one from the past, everythin's so soft and smooth.
Not the usual design of futurisstical designs these days. ¦:)

Thanks for the comments Monolith, its nice when someone "gets" what I'm going for here. The holes at the top of the fenders are for exhaust, and there will be a system for dealing with the thrusters/trailer conflict.

Retro-modern (if that's even a term, let alone the correct one). Like the PT Cruiser, Prowler, Crossfire, Kahuna and Thunderbird.

I am a fat ham for those styles. I love the way this came together.

Model on my brutha...

wow, this looks very good man :) the concept is truely insane, i like it, any plans for it to be in a scene? like a fifth element sort of highway?

yeah, as for a scene, I've got some rough storyboards about a scene I am going to put it in. I've been thinking about this project and doing some experiments for a few years now building up my skills in order to do it looking photo real. here's one of the storyboards...
