any ideas on a quick easy way to model a chain?

also i want to animate it...just use some kinda i.k. setup?

Here's a quick way to get a nice chain.

-Select the Toroid primitive tool, under the create tab.

-Make just two links of the chain using the toroid primitives. (You can shape the toroids a little to make them more like chain links

-Make a spline on another layer in the direction you want the chain to go

-Line up the two chain links at the end of the spline, with the spline in the background layer and the chains in the foreground

-Go to clone, multiply, rail clone.

-Select the number of links you think you will need.

and volla, you have a chain.


It might take a little bit of playing around to get the type of chain and number of links right, but it's still a pretty quick efficient way to get a chain.
