I am using max 4, this is my first post ever...so bear with me (thanks for showing me this place gnarly and sheep)

I am making a snowglobe (xmas spot) and I have a pcloud inside a sphere. The sphere has a raytraced refraction.

The problem is that the material on the pcloud (falloff in opacity slot) doesn't map right. If I hide the sphere the ploud looks like I want it to. Sphere on, material screwed again. What am I missing?

Can you post some sample images so that we have a better idea what the problem might be?

Sorry it tookl so long...

the file is just the gist of my problem. its a pcloud with facing particles mapped with a face mapped opacity mask...on the left is the particle system seen through the raytrace with transparency set to full. THe material just goes away?

More importantly, im making a snowglobe, with some things inside it (including the snow...the pcloud) I mapped the raytrace material to sphere and put the stuff inside it. Is there a better way to do that that im missing?
