I am working on my project that reads and display sequences of images of different formats, for example: bmp, png, tga, tiff, jpg ...

I read that PNG and BMP are free from patent licences. But I don't know what about other formats? Can I implement them into my project? I mean, is it legal to read jpegs or tiffs without some kind of permissions?

Where can I get information of that kind?

I also would like to implement RLA/RPF file format that is used by Autodesk, the source code is given in 3ds max SDK, how do I know I can use it in my project?
