View Full Version : Animation: new WIP
sanciok 11-05-2003, 12:55 PM Hi there!
I'm working on a new animation! I'm using the last version of my rig, very similar to the one i did for OTTO (the muscolar one).
Btw i'm always having the same problem... i need someone to host the divX for me... it's a 1000 Kb....
Thanks in advance!!!

JII: I know! It's a pain. I'm on OSX at home with Quicktime 6.3 (I think) and that usually works. At work (during the day) I'm only at QT4, so no luck...

You're becoming really good at rigging and animating, very very nice job! Let's this will convince people our IK system's not that bad, you just have to know how to use it.

Probably a stupid question, but... What are "driven keys"?
Could you post a screen of the rig itself?

San: Yes, I was the first on the list looking for it and I have yet to view it!!!! I can't see AVIs at work. I'll check it out over the weekend.
I noticed the sway towards Set Driven keys as opposed to PoseMixers with rigs. CosmicBear posted some neat stuff, too. Do you find them easier to work with than morphs? Have you found morphs slow you down?
You should take a look at Bonderland over at I-dea graphics. THAT looks pretty cool!

Pretty sweet Sanciok! My only criticism is that his legs and hips are too still at the beginning, just after he stands up out of the crouch. I think keyframing just a little hip rotation in that spot would help a lot.

Wait Bob! i DID use posemixers for facial expression and hands, but i'm controlling them with driven keys. U may ask why... In this way i have all the control in the viewport. It's also a matter of organizing the timeline!
I downloaded the Bonderland plugin and it seems to be very nice as if i found the rig avaliabile on the site a lot less stable and a lot more confusig than mine :)
Btw i still didn't understand its rigging process properly...
maybe i'll be using it! :)
AdamT: thanks for your suggestion! i'll add that movement!

Right... Driven keys is just a way to define a "relationship" between objects. For example u can have a null object driving the scale of a sphere when moving on the Y axis.
Using this tecnique (combined with expressions, Hard IK and Soft IK) i have full control of my character just using null objects!!
P.S.... for the legs i basically udes the NAAM's expression (with 3 Driven keys for controlling the movements and a constraint rotation to avoid leg flipping)

Really nice animation and rigging!
You're doing some really good work here for sure.
Only crits other than whats been said:
1.On the right foot step forward before the balloon appears, there seems to be no weight shift to the left foot. Just a little and some hip rotation might be a good thing.
2. He snaps into a pose right before he lets go of the balloon... it seems a little harsh. I think that could work as one fluid motion (with a little delay) as he goes into letting go and raising his arm.
Really nice!
