hi all,

I am new to polygon texture mapping and was wondering what the best apprach to texturing this character would be to minimize seams between the different sides and top/bottom.

should I planar map all the sides separately or use a cylinder or spherical map?
thanks for your replies

It really depends on what type of textures you're putting on. You ought to just try both methods and decide which is best for you. For a robot, you could just use procedural maps and avoid having to do UV layout entirely. But if you have file textures, then if they're simple, planar mapping might work well but if they are fancy, with rust and dings and whatnot in there, then you may want to do cylindrical mapping and then adjust the UVs from the UV editor to fix any stretching that occurs. Best of luck.
