Quote:
"Computer game fanatics should not be labeled addicts, although many players say they are hooked on a hobby that is affecting their social lives, scientists said Tuesday. Some evidence exists that games stimulate the same areas in the brain as alcohol and other drugs, psychologists, sociologists and others were told at the world's first interdisciplinary games conference here. But unlike the addictive substances, there is no medicine to deal with compulsive gaming behavior, they heard"

I have gone months now with out video games, (well except for UT2003, Dungeon Siege, MOHAA, Halo Demo, and countless online games) and I am doing fine, except for this uncontrollable shaking, and a nervous twitch.

I can testify that I feel no pressing physical or psychological need to play games.

It's influenced by the anti-violent games crowd.

When I discovered videogames, back in 1997, i was addicted to the point where Iīd go to sleep at 5:00 am to finish a level.
I lived an breathe videogames for years in a row.

And then, suddenly, one day the trend started to worn out.
I began to find other things to do.
Important things.
Nowadays I still play once in a while, to vent out some steam or just because thereīs nothing on the telly and Iīve run outta options of funny things to do.

And like me, Iīm sure thereīs tons of other guys who have space in their lives for videogames but donīt prioritise it as much as that article would lead us to believe.

So, on another words and speaking from experience... that article is bogus.

True. I have a real passion for games, but no time to indulge in them. I do occasionally set aside a portion of a weekend to hack away at one or two, but for the most part there's other things to be doing.

Then again, you've also got those on the other end of the scale who have WAY too much time on their hands and never leave their MMORPGS except for toilet and microwave breaks.:surprised

let's see....games are fun. people enjoy doing things that are fun. some people have compulsive tendencies. people who have compulsive tendencies can become addicted to things they enjoy.

i just saved the world a billion dollars in wasted research grants.

I stopped playing video games when my memory card was mysteriously erased two years ago. Hours and hours and hours and hours of gameplay gone in an instant.

Lately, I've been playing Hold'em and Stud poker on pokerstars.com. I do play a little virtual pool and baseball when I have some time.

I play every once in a while. I love gaming, but I just don't have the time these days.

I'd hardly call myself an addict. I think this 'study' is more propaganda for the anti-GTA, videogames as scapegoats crowd.

Can't believe tax dollars actually go to research this garbage. Man, I so wish I could navigate what my tax money is spent on.
