View Full Version : Marker drawing, pls give critics
Norante 06-07-2002, 12:34 PM Hi,
I finally got my hands on some Prismacolor markers, so I tryied something. I could only get two of them, cool gray 20 and 40, and could not give more ontrast to the image.
Anyway, please give some comments. :wip: :wip: :wip:
(please don't mind about the upper right section of the drawing. It intersects with another one, that is not worth showing anyone:) )

Looking good!
I'd like to see more.
I'm also wondering (more like braking my head) how you draw the perspective?
I have that alot when I see drawings like this.
I urgently need to sharpen my drawing skills again, and I need all tips I can get...

Very nice
But like you mentioned youself; it could really do with a bit more contrast. Buy a 60 or a 70.

Joril - I did perspective in this in a rush, since I was not expecting it would turn any good. You can find good reference in books about drawing. It's the kind of thing you get the feeling as you draw and draw
jeroentje - I will, for sure. Damn, they are ultra-expensive here.

Joril, I agree with Norante about getting a book on perspective.
Perspective is something everyone can learn who wants to put some time in it, because it works by non-agreable rules.
Norante, if it's just for practice; I used to use black ink & water back in school, when I couldn't afford expensive markers. The technique is quite simmilar to it (transparant colours etc.).

One more thing.. I was wondering if you guys know about any other marker brand. I want to try them, and compare the prices.
I only saw Prismacolor around here.

These are called ad-markers overhere.

They're the best markers I've ever used, they last a long time and give beautifull "life" colours. But they're not cheap.
Whatever you do, don't buy TRIA-Markers, with the 3 tips. They suck big time.

Not bad, Some of the perspective looks a bit off. If you look at the beam to the right its going to a diff, vanishing point than the rest of the ceiling. There's just a few things that seems to be a bit off. I would suggest just using a grid. I know its pain in the butt to draw but there's less room for error. I was wondering if you eye ball the perspective.
Also this is just a sugestion. Prisma Marker rock. But they freakin dry up fast specially if you use them all the time. I would suggest maybe to switch to Tria. They're a bit more expensive but they have refills. You can replace the tips when they get dull. The Markers run about 4.99 and the refill are about $8.99, but yuu can refill like a hundred times. Just drop a few drops i and you're good to go.

Hmm, in my experience it's the TRIA's that dry up too fast. That's why I prefer "AD".

Wow!!
That really good! I love the markers it's a shame you couldn't get the darker ones too. I try to copy the marker effect with photoshop but that hasn't worked very well and buying markers is just a bit to expensive for me now...
Anyway good job!

BTW, I noticed Corel Painter has a very good marker-tool. Technique and effect are for about 90% accurate!

Good! I will try that.
I bought the cool grey 60. They cost here around USD 5.00 each, I felt like being stabbed in the eye, but I have to try them.
I hope they last at least some more drawings, heheh.
Stonepilot - Thanks for the advice. As I said before, I did this drawing without worrying about anything. But it was turning good, so I thought it would be nice to finish it off, even with perspective problems. I can' afford the Tria's right now, and I doubt I will ever find any for sale here in Brazil, anyway. I will try the Corel Paint - Photoshop tricks, but I feel that hand drawing is my string point. and my damn table is defective right now :hmm:
See ya guys
