View Full Version : Particle problem - war craft III
Nima-3dman 11-03-2003, 10:24 AM In warcraft3 movies, we see the flowers are falling from Sky and "stop after coming to floor"...
I want to achieve to this work, but have a problem !
I create a Blizzard particle and Gravity /wind / UDynaFlect space warps and binds.
I used some rotation for particles, so when they come to the floor I want to stick them to floor (doesn't rotate, Stop and doesn't move at all)…
I used / UDynaFlect friction "100%" for sticky but for "rotation" I could nothing to do!
What should I do for particle rotation, until when they come to the floor don't rotate more and stop?
Thanks

wel the normal particle systems suck in max.
blizzard proberly made good use of compositing.
try using particle flow if you have max 5.1 or 6.

I would try with reactor..
:hmm:

Why do ppl INSIST on the normal particles suckin??? They just need a bit of manual work. Juss cuz there ain't much autopresets don't make them sucky. Sure not as high end as some others. But Reactors dynamics might be a solution there.otherwise u could maybe animate the rotation slides and such. But that don't work very well int the long run. Dunno...lol..guess I ain't helping much. Good luck! :D

Nima,
This would be a cinch in PFlow (Max6 - or Max5 if you're on subscription)... all you need to do is add a 'collision test' to the flow and just set the spin to '0' for the particles that are passed through the event.
If you don't have PFlow I'd say Reactor... or maybe there's a way to hack it all together with a 'Mesher' and or Snapshot meshes... the hard part would be figuring out how to do the swaping between the particle and the snapshot mesh at that point... Hmmmmm...

I appreciate... ok I will use Particle flow as soon as possible.
Just a question, How you can use Reactor for max5.1 particles?
Because I tried it before but I couldn't use reactor for particles.
How can I include particles in reactor ?
Thanks a lot

Nima,
To the best of my knowledge you cannot use Reactor on max particles. I would recomend instancing a bunch of your flower geometry and then use Reactor on those. You could probably add some Reactor Wind too... but I haven't played with it lately so I can't be 100% sure.

i thing BxHBxH is right... you can't use reactor for particles... but there are always workarounds...
one of the options is post production.. sounds like a good idea...
and there's always good old brute force approach.. :) if you don't have large amount of particles you could manually keyframe them.. and then make a lot of copies and just change ranges and slightly alter motion... yeah.. you WILL suffer.. but you will get nice result also.. :) you could get away by having some of the particles larger to draw attention and really dedicate yourslelf to make good motion on these... and have the rest smaller with lower quality motion just to fill the background...
or you could run reactor simulation with light, invisible to render, spheres with object you want as particles attached to them... that just might be the best solution...
and to Mr.Black: because they really do suck! :hmm: i mean, sure you can do a lot of nice things with them... but there are lots of better solutions on the market...
Just a wild ass guess:
Can you put a formula into a controller
for the objects and have it do a
collision test with the ground?
Like this:
if particle.z < 0 then particle.z = 0
Spawned particles would have
to inherit this to make it work.

Hi - I had a look at this thread. I'll follow up with our pro user team, and provide some additional input.
From my knowledge, you don't even have to use HAVOK for physics interaction with particles.
There is the warper that can add physics and dynamics to the particles...
I'll get the technical reply and post later.

i am very interested in paritcles......cud u post apic...i may be able to help ya.....i think....you can tweak the wind space warp for it!

On your udeflector try setting the friction on it somewhere between 90-100%
