Hi all,

I've been trying on a few approches in order to ahcheive a life-like chrome material.
Currently I have a retraced material with a balck diffuse color and a 100% retraced reflection map.
I also have my IOR set to 10.
The thing is I get what I could call more of a "black chrome", where as what I want to create is a more of the regular siliverish chrome (this is for the chrome metrials on the guitar model I am making).

Anyone got any tips what I should go about doing? If I make the diffuse less black and more grayish I get not as much colors refelcted as I'd excpected.

Thanks!

I'm sure you have already thought of this... but someone has to ask.
You are not just testing it on a sphere with no environment with a black background are you?
Cause that could account for being dark.

Ah, lol no!

But you were right to ask.

I have a background. I think what I need is to know how to change the color of the light which is not refelcted without changing the color of the reflected light.

Do remeber that this is a metal and not a a mirror, so I do need my share of gray there.

Are you using a raytrace material, or a standars one with a raytrace map in the reflection?

Btw i think max has some preset materials that include chrome!

A raytrace material. Not the standard with a raytraced map.
