I am a beginner, and also this is my first post in the forum.

I am learning maya and today we did a little bit of poly modeling.
I had a question which no one could explain it to me.

I took a poly sphere and then extruded some faces then i tried to rotate it but couldnt do it properly as the coordinates (the manipulator) were not proper as you have while extruding faces of a poly cube.

I tried checking the world cordinates on.

Can you help?

THANK YOU

When you extrude faces, there is this little "handle" that will appear outside the XYZ handles.
It's a little round circle which you can drag to the center of the body.

What you can do also is after having extruded the faces (and you will see boxes (manipulators) appear after the XYZ arrows) you can press the usual QWERTY keys to manipulate your faces a bit that couldn't be done otherwise if you were still in "extrude face"-mode.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply,

but i tried it i see a small blue color circle when i click on it it goes to the center like (moving the pivot) but to the base from where it was extruded.

Problem
I get the manipulator tool in a weired position ie.the x y and z cocordinates seems to be rotated by certain degrees and the angle increases every time you choose the next face on the sphere at one point it gives the perfect position where i can move rotate and scale the faces perfectly.

Thanks once Again

So are you rotating the faces by clicking the blue circle around the active extrude tool?

If you answer 'yes' then this might help. The z axis is always at a right angle to the face when manipulating faces this way. Has something to do with Local coordinates.

So each face around a sphere will have a different local orientation, as each face points with its z axis in a different direction. I hope this makes sense...

Anyway, if you don't want the rotate tool to be orientated by the face... then just extrude your face and choose the rotate tool, via the menu.

Thanks a lot, but still dosent work

TRY THIS
Create a poly sphere, select some of the faces around it (Alternate ones are better),
then extrude those faces and move them outside to a substantial distance, then select on of the extruded faces and extrude it again(half the distance outside extruded earlier )and then try to rotate them downwards through the manipulator or the rotate tool from the menu it gives a problem.

I WAS TRYING TO MAKE SPIDER LEGs FOR THE SPHERE ROUGHLY SPEAKING.

If you get it please let me know.

Thank You once again.
