Hi, there are a few questions I was wondering if people could help me with.

1. Is it possible to render particles that glow with the Hardware Renderer? Or do you have to add the glow in post production?

2. Is there a way to attach/parent an object to another object's face/vertice? So that if the parent object morphs or moves the other object moves with that face/vertice?

3. Gulp, this may be a silly question, but why is there a hardware renderer at all? Why can't all particles be software rendered? Is it faster to hardware render?

I just don't understand. Thanks.

#1 From what I can tell, hardware particles cannot glow. Software particles can. Glow is a function of the software renderer.

#2 See the Rivet or pointOnSurfaceConstraint scripts. (www.highend3d.com)

#3 Hardware renders are extremely fast (it's what Maya uses to render the viewpoints). Even with a 32 multipass, it smokes any software renderer.

too question number 1 :

it's not really possible in maya (bigfatMElon is right) but you can achieve this in any compositing programm u use. i tend to render out my particles also just as a black white map seperatly too the normal color image. this one i then use to control the glow effect.

3D work (especially then it comes to particles) is always a work together with compositing.

#3 It's also almost the only way to do wireframe rendering in Maya. Gets really good though, with a bit of tweakin' in post...
