Hey guys,

I had this idea for a short film I wanted to do with this character. I did some sketches while at school, then started modeling him in max. Hes still very much a work in progress, and I would like to get some feedback from you guys.

I also want to ask if anyone knows about the new uvw mapping method for max 6? I saw it at the max 6 demo a month ago when they were showing it at my school (Emily Carr). The guy showed a character model, he then unstitched seems on it, and layed out the cloth in reactor. He then updated max with the layed out cloth, and went from there. I dont know how to explain it exactly, but if anyone knows what im talking about, It would be really helpful if you could tell me how its done.

Thanks again guys.

Hmm, the head seems to big in the z-dimension. The chin-line should be a fluid one, it has a hitch in it now (sorry for my bad english).

You should work on the sweater, if he is to lower his arms, his elbows will be where armpits should be in the sweater.

His arms should be a bit longer, the hands & wrist a bit bigger.

Your concept looks cool, you got some serious skill. He looks like some kind of bad-ass cop with nothing left to loose; especialy on the second drawing; his head down expresses despair, the guns anger. Nice idea, keep working on it.

yup.. fix the head. If all else fails, remodel the head from scratch again and again until you 'get' what you're doing wrong. Check out head modeling tutorials.

I also like the centre sketch, but think his head needs a lot of reworking, it looks too thin in his X-, are you using ref images for the face other than you sketch.

Thanks all.

I have been working on the head, trying to fix the areas you mentioned. What I wanted to show in the head was his expression of depression.... wow Im a poet.

Anyways, his cheek bones I wanted to extrude out, and his actual cheek areas to be sunken to suggest he might not be getting the best meals everyday. You are right, the head is a little to narrow, and maybe sticks out too much from behind.

About the sweater :

I wanted to create a sense of baggy, comfortable clothing and so made the sweater an XXL. You made a good point, saying it will look odd when animated. Is there any suggestions on how I can still achieve the style I want without the unwanted animation after effects?

Thanks in advance.

Make the body --> sleeve transition a little higher. Take a look at sweaters in the real world. I got loads of the sweaters ur trying to make, and they all have a fairly high armpit.

Making it XXL is a good choice, just make sure the character's size isn't XXS, or he'll drown in it :D
