So to get this totally straight. You made sure that "Sticky axis" is on (checked). Then for instance you had hinge move with the axis, and you clicked on one of the arrow/cones and it highlighted (correct?) as you moved it. You let go of the axis, and without clicking on any other part of the axis or changing tools the axis all turned back to it's full color (i.e. the arrow you just clicked on was no longer highlighted)? Or, it did remain highlighted, but then when you clicked and dragged away from the axis (i.e. no-where near the axis, bear in mind that the cube at the centre will unlock because it sets the axis in free mode) it moved freely in all three axis, rather than just in that one axis that was highlighted. Correct?

Is anybody else having any difficulty with Hinge Extrude after the second update? I can no longer get Hinge Extrude to work in Edge mode - or any mode except the new Axis mode. I can see the settings in the Active Tool panel, but nothing happens if I'm trying to use any mode other than Axis mode. No highlight of a hinge edge, no movement of anything. Is it still working for everyone else?
A small and barely-related item is that Hinge Extrude now shows up in the Mesh Surgery plugins menu above the separator that cordons off the other Hinge tools - at least that's the way it's situated on my system. Perhaps another Mesh Surgery tool being added pushed things around in the menu resource, but the 3rd Party folks might want to put all the Hinge tools back together inside the separator. I know most people probably don't even notice that since these tools are so useful they warrant proper toolbar real estate and keyboard shortcuts. I only brought this up in the extremely slight chance that it could possibly be related to the other Hinge Extrude problem I described above.

The hinge extrude bug is known and fixed for the next update. It currently only works in axis mode.
The order of items in the menu hasn't changed (hinge extrude was always above the others, becuase it's in with the what i call misc tools, mesh brush, slide, normal move) rather than straight translate tools.

This was not so in version 1.
I am on Win 2k
I have R 8.22,, tons of Plugins installed, but i am pretty sure this was not happening in version 1.
In Meshbrush, no matter where I turn "keep density" on it will crash Cinema---
Anyone else can confirm?

It sounds like you might need to pay close attention to the InstallationReadMe.txt file which includes the following instructions:
Place the MeshSurgery.xdl (mac) or MeshSurgery.cdl (pc) in your Plugins/Mesh Surgery folder inside of plugins, it will ask you if you want to overwrite, say yes.
Next copy the Contents of the MeshBrushScripts folder into your Plugins/Mesh Surgery/MeshBrushScripts/ folder
Last of all copy the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) called "Put Contents in res" into your Plugins/Mesh Surgery/res/ folder, it will ask you if you want to overwrite a few things, say yes.

back a few posts...
ok, reset the defaults and sticky axis works. but have a few questions. does it only work with hinge move? when i use the sticky axis the axis handles move away from the center of the object. when I use free mode the handle stays with the object, but they move when I select any of the move/rotate/scale tools. I know documentation is coming soon and will probably explain these options... but am quite confused. thanks for any help!

Hi there Third Party! Are the "point-loop" and "Quad-loop" going to be free updates? Can one assign the "liquidpopup" or submenus to shorcuts? I īve got a spaceball 4003 thats just waiting to be configured :-)
Thanks
chromecity

Not sure what you mean by "point-loop" and "Quad-loop" potentially being free updates. Certainly Point Loop works fine as is. Have you heard something in particular about a future enhancement?
And you can definitely configure the Liquid Nitrogen popup menu to a keystroke or mouse-button combo using the typical "Edit Palettes" mechanism. Just look in the command list for "Liquid Nitrogen".

Hello, i'm not quite sure what you mean, Point loop and quad loop? Vertex loops and Polygon Loops have always been a part of Mesh Surgery from the off (they're already in there) and the Liquid Nitrogen tool can be assigned a shortcut just like any other command from cinema's command manager.

However, I'm a bit confused as to the update versions.
At Paul's site, the PC upgrade is labeled 1.11b (size 876kb, dated 04/11)
At peranders.com, it is 1.12, but dated earlier (size 620kb, dated 03/11)
Must be an oversight due to hard work ;)

I vaguely remember in one of your demo reels a tool that appeared to "grow out" a mesh. Did that find it's way into the finished product or will it be in a later version? The reason I ask is I didn't see it on your "Mesh Surgery Video Clips" page. It might well be an extension of one of the brush tools but I wasn't sure. Just wondering, it would be a handy tool to have.
Thanks

Not to add to the mayhem, but...
When I updated to 1.11 (I haven't done the latest yet), I noticed after cutting some loops in a rectangle with Katena, the rectangle looks bowed in the preview. Not perfectly square anymore. It kind of bulges out on the places where Katena was used. I don't remember this happening in the earlier version.
Anyone else notice this??

I posted this at MS-Forum but there seems to be more action here...
Make a Sphere. Select a poly. Select an edge of the poly in edgemode.
Turn on HingeExtrude and set to Local. Chose AxisMode(The Gizmo shows up). CtrlShiftClick on the Edge. The Gizmo gets in the right position along the edge.
Drag one of the bands of the Gizmo to extrude...
BANG!
Cinema crashes.
I have restarted Cinema as well as the computor and run Coctail(For permissions and stuff)
I have reset MS in Preferences.
I must say, since MS is such a fantastic tool, PLEASE, make it more stable instead of putting more functions in it. Having to find new bugs is most frustrating while modeling.
Paul and Per, donīt fall into the usuall software syndrome to make MS more than it is(a fantastic modelling tool).
I personally could do without PaintObjects....
As someone elsewhere said: Put the complete version of MS in its different versions for downloading. Having to copy and move and replace different files across folders is not very intuative for us computer idiots who only uses teh program and havenīt a clue how to program and such.
Sorry for the rant, but now MS steals the time it is suppose to win.

once again please download the 1.12 version that we have repeatedly told all to download (don't downlaod the 1.11b). Always use the version with the highest version number, don't go by date because we are in different time zones.
to get the axis to show, either scale it up from 0 in the preferences, or hit teh reset defaults button in the preferences.
tca studios, we have consistently fixed all bugs we've been told about in each update (yes even 1.1 fixed all known bugs from 1.0 even if it brought some more of it's own), thankyou for finding the new bug, and reporting it, it will be fixed in the next update.

@ lennart: hah! thank you. it seems from mdme_ sadie that it is supposed to be just shift, but in the short run, i'm happy just to have a way to make it work.
Per-Anders
11-04-2003, 10:51 PM
ah sorry, my mistake, it depends on the selection mode.
if it's "invert" then just shift should do it
if it's normal mode then you ahve to hold down shift+ctrl because otherwise it interferes with being able to add to teh selection by holding down shift and clicking.

do you have either superflange or fuzzy smooth on currently? (i.e. with values higher than 0%)
bobzilla

Yes and yes! Unkowingly. Is "on" now the default with Superflange? I also didn't realize the other options still affected the tool if Superflange was off.
The problem was fixed, but Superflange had to be unchecked AND fuzzy smooth was set to "0".

Hi Paul, hello Per,
I have an item to add to the MS wishlist. Beveling corners has always been difficult in C4D - at least, until version 8. Extruding edges the right way gets you where you want - eventually. It's exactly this "eventually" that I would like to see dissapear.
In Maya, when you use the bevel command, it not only rounds the selected corners (instead of also enlarging your model like C4D does), but it also lets you set a division factor. If you would like to round a corner by using 6 divisions, you do just that - in one go.
I would be nice to see the same option in MS: bevel/round a corner with a division factor that can be set.
On a side note: MS is a dream come true - still :)
Cheers,
BaRa

hey everyone. i was using a student version of C4D and purchased MS the first day it became available. When my commercial version came, i reinstalled C4D and placed the plugin in the correct directory. when i opened C4D i was asked for serial numbers, including MS. i entered them all in and the program opened fine but MS is not showing up under the plugin menu?
any suggestions?

Do the first 11 digits of your commercial version's serial number differ from the first 11 digits of your student version's serial number? If so, then the serial number you received from Per or Paul is keyed to your student version and will not work with the commercial version. And if that's the case, you'll have to contact whichever one of them that you purchased it from to inquire about getting a new serial number keyed to your commercial version.

I love the plugin but have been having frequent program crashes when using the various mesh brush tool settings and experimenting. The last time I was simply using the brush in vertex paint mode on a plane. It never seems to crash right away when I start using it, just at random times. I've tried removing other plugins to make sure they are not the culprit. I'm working on a PC Athlon system, 1.5 gig RAM and using the 1.15 version. Is anyone else finding the same?

Love the Plugin...however,
I'm finding frequent sporadic crashes of C4D when using the mesh brush tool with various settings...the last one was in vertex painting mode. I've been experimenting with simple plane objects. It never crashes right away, but at random (seemingly) times as I brush. Running on PC Athlon, 1.5 gig RAM, C4D 8.2
I've tried stripping down my plugins folder to eliminate the possibility of conflicts. still happens. Using the most recent 1.15 update of Mesh Surgery.
Is anyone else having this?

i get sporadic crashing...very random not narrowed it down yet and unlike you i've not removed my other plugs any of which could be causing crash i suppose. seems to happen contantly changing between modes eg edge/point/poly and back again...then using poly loops and edge loops....but i'm unable to narrow it down more than that at moment...will let you know if i can...
anyway any known bugs or crashing please report them to the mesh surgery forums.
(its such a part of my workflow now i can't really understand how i did things before really...kinda creeps up at ya like that absolutely love it and speeds my snail like modelling to something semi acceptable...for that you guys have got a big thumbs up from me)
I've got the same problem - sporadic crashing. Often with Katana, but also with Mesh Brush...seems to be switching too or from one of the tools...but totally sporadic and random.
Glad to hear it's not just only having 512MB!
But suffice to say, Mesh Surgery is soooo handy that I still use it constantly, even with crash bugs. Hopefully they can trace those crash bugs though!

A note to everyone. Don't use the Mesh Brush Script for Vertex painting. Firstly it seems that on some machines it causes a crash, and secondly it's only meant as an example for scripters to show how to use interface elements. There is an inbuilt Vertexpaint brush in the left hand "Brushes" menu... just above the selection brush. Use this instead.
