I am looking for info on creating images in mental ray to be used in nuke for deep compositing.

It sounds like to future of compositing.

Seems like render man and houdini are the only renders out there generating images for nuke deep compositing.

Wondering in there's more info out there for mental ray users.

Thanks

renderman deep shadow format is copyrigthed, so doubt it.

Openexr 2.0 will support deep images and Nuke is planning to integrate it (if it hasn't already). MR already has sample compositing built in which is effectively the same thing, but its saved their own format. I'm sure it wouldn't be too tricky to extend it to work with Openexr 2.0 once thats out.

Great so it sounds like openEXR should be out soon and support deep imaging.

until then I'll be trying to work with normal and position passes with these concepts.

I'm wondering about the position pass out of mental ray, is it pretty simple to render without much configuring?

thanks

This is a little OT, but yeah, just plug world postion from a sampler info node into a surface shader, done.
